Biography
Internationally acclaimed vocalist/pianist Carol Welsman is a 6-time Juno Award. She captivates audiences the around the world with her unique ability to story tell and spread her infectious warmth and energy through music. The Granddaughter of the founder and first conductor of the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Carol was born with music in her soul, and had mastered the violin and bass before finishing high school. Her passion for jazz led her to Boston’s Berklee College of Music, where she majored in piano performance. She later traveled to Europe, and studied voice with Christiane Legrand (sister of Michel) and teamed up as a songwriter with Romano Musumarra, writing lyrics for artists like Ray Charles, Pavarotti, Celine Dion and Nicole Scherzinger.
Fluent in French, Italian and Spanish in addition to her native English, Carol blends languages (including Portuguese) and rhythms with a versatile repertoire including swing, samba, R & B, pop and jazz. She delivers a mix of American Songbook classics and original compositions in a style that ranges from sensuous and warm to infectiously energetic. When it came time for LA based Welsman to choose the repertoire for 14, her new album (September 2022), she realized that searching for material was not only pleasant, but that the final choices turned out to be a musical autobiography including landmark pieces, each with a special meaning, evoking memories of different times in his life and career.

Co-produced by Carol and Romano Musumarra, 14 is a record full of beauty and hope and is undoubtedly Welsman’s most personal record. She is accompanied by her long-time Quebec friends, guitarist Pierre Côté, bassist Rémi-Jean LeBlanc and drummer Jim Doxas on half of the 12 tracks.
